I just bought a beautiful Nissan Murano from Honda Southern Motors salesman DJ. He was terrific. He went above and beyond to get me a gorgeous car. (My car is black. It's name is Black Bear, middle name Black Beauty...I always name my cars.) I got a car with great mileage and a terrific warranty. I want to thank the whole Southern Motors Honda team for getting me the car of my dreams.

I had a good experience buying a car with the help of Megan Oreilly. She spent the entire morning with me seeking the right car for me. The finance manager, Jeff, offered me the various warranties but wasn't too pushy about them. I didn't deal with the Service Dept, but I hope they'll be as friendly and effective as the sales staff.
Unscrupulous claims made by a "Service Provider"
At issue is their attempt to perform unnecessary maintenance on my Crosstour while at the same time telling me my warranty would be voided if I didn't have this maintenance done. When I arrived at Southern Motors in July 2019 for routine maintenance, I had 33,000 miles on my car and my mileage minder showed I only needed an oil change. However this dealer’s Service Provider told me I also needed to get my transmission fluid changed and that this was required to maintain my warranty. I told him I would think about it. I did some research and found that the transmission fluid on my 2014 Crosstour does not need to be changed until it reaches 60,000 miles I contacted the dealership via email and their service director wrote back that "I think there was a misunderstanding about the trans service and warranty being voided and all that. The maintenance minder on the newer Hondas comes on reminding of the trans fluid service around 35k miles. Yours is a few years old and has different reminders. The transmission fluid is supposed to be changed every 30-35k miles. The Limited Lifetime Powertrain warranty is the one that could have coverage problems if the fluid is not changed at the correct interval. The transmission is your car is very fluid sensitivity for sure." I checked again and found no evidence that this is true. To the contrary I found several sources, including Honda's own tech manual, which reiterates that the transmission fluid does not need replacing until 60,000 miles. Again, I contacted the dealership to request they send me documentation that supersedes the 60,000 mile recommendation but they did not respond. I then contacted American Honda Motor Co. asking them if they had anything from Honda that supports the allegations of the dealership. They did not address this question. Instead they responded by saying "We recommend following the maintenance minder in the vehicle for any services or maintenance needed." They added: "The dealerships are independently owned and operated and are allowed to provide customers with service or maintenance recommendations." Their response tells me that they do not support Southern Motors Service Dept’s allegations re. when the transmission fluid needs to be changed. Upon consideration of the above, I find that Southern Motor's service dept. engages in unethical practices in an attempt to perform unnecessary and costly services. Moreover, their allegation that my failure to perform such service would void my warranty is nothing less than attempted extortion.
Really Good Folks to Deal With
I’ve bought two vehicles from Southern Motors and have never had a problem with them. They have truly tried to keep earning my business by being forthright. I don’t like someone trying to BS me or constantly harass me trying to get a sale and these folks have been great about that.
Super Awesome Service
I came in to purchase a vehicle today at the suggestion of a trusted acquaintance. I absolutely dread the car buying experience but Rob Kivett, Brad Strauss and whoever else assisted behind the scenes were fabulous. It was a very smooth transaction.
Went there Jan. was sick but wanted to look. Salesman kept at me to buy and deal. Knew what I wanted but did not have color or price I wanted. So he got me in an over priced used car with little of the safety features I need. Promised to help get payment lower 369. over budget. Called later no help. Went back to see if I could trade for new but they were no help. So getting sicker with no safety features to help. Love Honda but not Southern Motors.
