Dishonest, worst car buying experience I’ve had!

by Jennifer on Jul 03, 2022

Horrible customer service, cannot get in touch with a supervisor, very departmentalized so each person tells you “sorry I can’t help, that’s not my department”. Dishonest business practices - they didn’t tell us about longer shipping or additional items wrong with the truck interior and exterior until AFTER paying a non-refundable shipping fee. Financing is a joke - they do not give you the best financing option, they must select the one that pays them the most money, already working on refinancing a week in. Took 3 hours at delivery, would have been better at a traditional dealership.

Worst Sleazy Car Company Ever

by JH on Jun 15, 2022

A long saga of over a MONTH to get this car- but the highlights: -delivered a car with leaking radiator, cracked windshield and brake pads so worn down that it made it undrivable (DESPITE their 150 point inspection) -REFUSED a full refund DESPITE It being 100% their fault for delivering a non drivable car (refusing to refund shipping, cost of inspection, etc) -Takes over a week to get loan cancelled and any deposit money returned- STILL WAITING!) -7 day "test drive" is worthless - if you have issue- they will hold on to any money you paid (shipping, deposit, repair fees) if you dont like the car or if it's broken! -delayed shipping to over 2 weeks with zero contact on where it is -you cannot get the same customer service person- there are so many "departments" that wont accept phone calls- you have any issues- it takes at least 24-48 hours to hear back via email or text and it's all lip service not one person has authorization to do ANYTHING- they have to submit a request (which left me stranded for a day with a non working car) Story: I bought a 2014 Lexus LX 570- which is a highly reliable car - and I do my research- I called the previous dealerships, made Shift send me all the documentation verifying that this car was in good working order- and they "promised" that their 150 point inspection was done thoroughly. I paid to have it shipped from California ($895) (it's now in Seattle- so if you see it- dont buy it!) - it took over 2 weeks to get here upon scheduling delivery- immediately i saw that there was a crack in the windshield-and it was disgusting! candy wrappers, dirt, it had clearly not been cleaned to any reasonable standard, missing and broken interior parts- the Seattle "ground" team tells me that "sorry, we cant keep track of every car" - after PUSHING for repairs they take it back and return it 4 days later- still dirty but "better" with an aftermarket windshield despite requesting OEM to ensure quality the next day (<24 hours from the moment I finally got it)- i take it to the Lexus dealership to have a 3rd party inspection (which cost me over $500 - fine - my choice) - they find a leaking radiator and rear brake pads needs to be replaced- i call shift immediately- they tell me they have to submit a request and will get back to me in 24-48 hours- meanwhile the dealership is recommending I dont drive it more than to just get it back i email back and forth with "supervisors" as they refuse to take calls- they continue to refuse to refund my FULL SHIPPING despite the fact that this was CLEARLY their issue- they have no problem taking your money AND taking the car back (as i refused to keep it)- however, getting ANY money back is near impossible and it's NOT WORTH IT if you think you're the exception and it will be good- DONT do it tips -if you look carefully on the pictures- you'll see that the quality of the interior pictures is hard to see- that's because they are hiding things like dirt/broken pieces/crayon and stain, missing floor mats, missing headrests, broken/scratched console/interior, etc) -like any sleazy car company- you have tons of contact with a "purchase advisor" but once you put money into - they disappear and you can't get any help for issues and they will not vouch for their cars -cars have to be shipped because they are crap and it's cheaper to have them sit on lots far away- DO NOT BUY A CAR that requires shipping- THEY WILL NOT REFUND IT EVEN IF THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE or has issues and is their fault i could go on and on- but if i can keep ONE person from buying from Shift- this is worth it! The 2014 Lexus LX 570 listed in Auburn/Seattle- anywhere in the PNW- dont buy it- it's got issues that Shift will try and hide and pass onto you!

Communication was nonexistent Staff was very rude Thankfully, I ended up not purchasing. Based on other reviews, I definitely dodged a bullet. Do your homework.

Might be the worst car buying experience that I've had. They started off ok - I bought a 2018 Acura TLX from Shift, car came with minor blemishes on the rear bumper, but otherwise was clean and the rep was friendly. Not the fastest process but was assured that it was "risk free" as I'd get a full refund if I changed my mind within 7 days / 200 miles. Tried the car for a few days, but ultimately decided downsizing to a sedan just wasn't for me. Shouldn't be a problem because I'm under the guarantee right? Scheduled a return, and we're all good right? WRONG. DEAD WRONG. First, what Shift doesn't really tell you is that they do not refund you "a shipping fee" (in this case over $800+) from the price. Not really a "full refund". I had mine shipped from SF...I can only imagine how much I'd lose if I shipped it from somewhere like Florida. Shift get's to snag a few $$$-$$$$ regardless. Second, despite saying I'd get a refund within 24-48 hours, it has now been a week+ and they've held onto ~$30K. I guess their former customers are supposed to provide this "startup" interest free financing for their growth. No update on where my money is. Finally called customer support and apparently their "accounting department" conveniently needed "an extra piece of information" which is why they haven't started my refund yet. Still out $30K. I'm now told they need an additional 24-48 hours to process and then an additional 5-7 business days for the money to be back in my account. I'm basically providing interest free loans at this point. DO NOT TRUST.

Process was easy, but product was disappointing

by MarcD on Jun 17, 2021

The buying process was simple, professional, and easy. The vehicle has ended up having multiple issues which have amounted to about $900 in repairs. These where the types of issues which should have been discovered by a basic inspection and review of the vehicle by the dealership prior to sale. I wanted like Shift and was routing for a great experience because they do make things very easy, but I'm left feeling disappointed instead. I can't say I trust the quality of their vehicles based on my experience.

Too easy to believe

by Giddy on May 26, 2021

Just bought a 2017 BMW X1 from SHIFT. They delivered it to my home in Tacoma for a 25 minute test drive, 3 hours after I scheduled the appointment. They called when they left their dealership and called again when a few minutes from our home. We bought it on the spot. Immaculate condition car for a ridiculously reasonable, no hassle price. One of the Key Fobs had a dead battery, so they quickly offered a generous discount for our troubles. The buying process wasn't flawless, took maybe 45 minutes because the polite, professional young man who drove the vehicle to our home mis-entered the VIN number for our temporary plate. They didn't have a clean process to correct his error. But overall, we are giddy from a positive experience, an excellent deal and a beautiful car.

Excellent Customer Care

by ChanceinSea on May 17, 2021

They brought cars to my home in order for me to test drive. The reps were knowledgeable and didn't seem to be faking there way to a sale. They were patient and understanding of what I really wanted and made a notable effort to find vehicles that would work for me.

BEST car buying experience EVER

by Andrew on Apr 02, 2021

Purchased a used bmw from shift and the experience was amazing. Best car buying experience I have ever had. All done quickly, no pressure. Delivered on all promises. Never felt like the company was cutting corners. Quoted my trade in in other 3 websites and shifts offer was the highest. Concierge was on time and was super helpful. This is the future way to buy used cars.
