Cars on the lot
Called and asked if there were any problems with the car, was told no. I have found issue after issue since. Not happy
Easy to deal with
Drove from Lafayette In to purchase a vehicle and stopped at American Imports. We spoke with the owner Jeff and he was great to deal with! Good family owned company that has some good deals on cars!
Very Disapointed CONTINUED
It's been less than 3 months now and my truck has been in the shop SIX times. The check engine light is on now and it is in desperate need of more repairs. I was told yesterday that my truck, which now has 88k miles, has a bunch of junk yard parts in the engine compartment. STAY AWAY OR GO BROKE!
Finally a dealer who is willing to negotiate!
Just bought a 93 red lebaron from them today. The car seems like it is in excellent condition. They have a good selection of vehicles compared to other lots. The best part was that they were willing to negotiate on the price, which most other places didnt. I would buy from them again. Ask for Jeff or Schafer.
STAY AWAY! Deceitful family business. I purchased an 02 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with 86k miles from them and dealt with Shafer (son) and Jeff (father/owner). I got shuffled back and forth between the 2 of them, which allows them to be ‘not quite sure’ about anything! They are pros at it! They put a higher price on every vehicle then ‘slash’ the price. They are non-negotiable on their price because it has already been reduced. Every car on their website and lot is ‘on sale’. I was told my vehicle was reduced $2000, and they had owned it less than a week. My truck is nice looking and it seemed to be in great shape. When I got home, my son and I noticed a smell coming from the engine compartment but weren’t sure what it was. Two days later the ‘check engine’ light came on, and a couple days later it overheated. My normal mechanic was booked up and a friend, who works on all of his vehicles, replaced the thermostat. He told me someone else had already worked on the cooling system and there were several hoses that were just pushed on and didn’t have any clamps. He put clamps on for me. Then when I drove the truck, the coolant poured out under the vehicle. On my next day off, about 1 ½ weeks after purchasing the vehicle and only putting about 150 miles on it, I went back to American Imports Indy and talked to Shafer and explained to him that I have had nothing but problems ever since I purchased the truck. He told me to bring it in and they would look at it. I did the next day, Saturday, and was told they would look at it on Monday and if I didn’t hear from them by 1:00 to call them. I called about 2:30 on Monday and asked for Shafer, I was told he was busy and talked to his dad, Jeff. He told me they think it was the water pump but weren’t really sure, that the paperwork when I dropped off said check coolant leak and that’s what they did, they weren’t going to do any repairs and I needed to pick it back up and take it to a mechanic. They don’t do repairs like that, only brakes and things of that sort. I was upset and he told me he didn’t know what was said when I brought the truck back, and that he was put in the middle. I told him to go ask his son who was there! He told me he would gather more info and call me back. He called about 5:00 and I was informed again that they weren’t going to help with the repairs since I didn’t buy a warranty, and if I wanted a new vehicle I should have gone down the road to Blossom Chevrolet. I purchased a 14 year old truck and didn’t expect it to be like new and it wasn’t. The locking gas cap was broken and fell off when I went to put gas in, both door locks were seized and didn’t work (it has keyless entry), the lock in the hard cover is broken and won’t open without being repaired, the spare is thrown in the bed for some reason, the handle on the passenger side headliner is missing… but at 86k miles I didn’t think I needed a warranty. Shafer told me, with the company being a family owned business that he has to wear ‘many hats’ (purchasing, driver, sales… and even a mechanic). He told me that they purchase a lot of vehicles from new dealerships because they get a lot of trade-ins, and that HE got my truck from Ray Skillman, but they are nowhere in the paperwork. When I talked to him about the truck having previous coolant issues because of all the clamps that were missing, he told me it was really cold last week and sometimes when it gets really cold, they just break and fall off. Was he wearing his ‘dunce’ hat or ‘liar, liar’? Jeff, the owner, told me that he had driven the truck and what a nice vehicle I was getting. (FACT – from a dealer in Roseville, MI to a used car dealer on N. College in Indianapolis, to American Imports to me, it was only driven 49 miles including my test drive.) He said that one of the guys in the back told him to let him know if it didn’t sell. He says they only do that when they get a really good one in. First of all, he works there and would know if it sold, and secondly, he is a mechanic? When I talked to him on the phone about repairs, he told me that they have didn’t have time to work on my truck. They have “130 vehicles there that need worked on”. Well, that is the most honest words I have heard come out of his mouth. Most likely every vehicle he owns needs a mechanic! They don’t provide a CARFAX because per Jeff “it is too expensive” and they don’t allow their vehicles be taken off site to a mechanic per Shafer. Please take time to read the reviews. People have said, car was junk, no clean, weren’t even operational, transmission issue, wasn’t even running, wouldn’t even start, everything on lot has check engine light, don’t buy unless you are looking for a fixer upper, not ready to sell, too many issues… and I’m sure you don’t want to be another one of them! To date, I have owned the vehicle 16 days and have only been able to drive it 4, and that is only because I work less than 2 miles from home and only live about 5 miles from American Imports Indy. It is in the shop being worked on by an actual mechanic for repairs that will cost me several hundred dollars or more. I will try to post updates, but wanted to share my experience as soon as possible to hopefully prevent someone else from making the same MISTAKE!
No response to emails
Emailed several times to ask if a car was still available. No response to any of my emails. Either don't care if they make a sale or something is wrong with vehicle.
We are sorry if you were not contacted, we do call form a 317-898-1888 number and our email is AmericanImportsIndy@gmail.com. Thank you
Second purchase form American Imports
I have recently just purchased a car from American Imports. I live in Fishers, but have found that American Imports has more inventory than, and better prices than any of the dealers near me. I had an idea of what I wanted, so I called American Imports and he was able to work an appointment and answered all my questions over the phone. I told him exactly what I was looking for, and it was by far the easiest experience I have ever had. We made the drive down, and it was well worth it. I test drove the car looked at the AUTOCHECK HISTORY REPORT and everything was on the level. I went in and signed the paperwork, and I was in and out of the dealership in less an a 45 min. You can defiantly teIl its father and son working together HAHA and I will be absolutely going back again.
Thank you American Imports
My experience with American Imports was awesome. I would definitely buy from them again. Shafer was a great help! Two thumbs up for this company. Thank you!
Great exprience!!! Laid back no pressure
My husband and I went into American Imports just to look at options for buying a new vehicle for our daughter. Jordan did great job helping us decide what type of vehicle we should get her, he answered all of our questions, informed us on stuff that we didn't know, showed us the Auto check history report. He didn't pressure us about anything. Then when we all went inside they had the college football games on. My husband and Jordan immediately clicked and started talking about sports. Jordan got us a great deal and a SUV for our daughter. When it comes time to buy the next vehicle for our other daughter, we will be bringing our business there. Thank you
I have been on the search for a car for two weeks now. I got online and saw two cars that I was really interested in. My fiance and I drove 45 minutes to American Imports to look and potentially buy one of the cars that I liked. When we got there, no one came out of the building to talk to us, even though we walked the lot twice, waiting for someone to come out. I eventually told my fiance that we should go into the building and tell them that I was interested in test driving a car on the lot. The guy was sitting at the desk and when asked if we could test drive a car, he huffed and his response was "Well I probably shouldn't tell you this but that car has some transmission problems. You can drive it but you won't get very far." This made me think he wasn't interested in selling a car that day. He never got up from his seat once. Then he gave us his card and on the back wrote out a website that we could go on to look at more cars. Why would we go online to look at more cars when we are already there?! He was very rude and not helpful, at all. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!
